A 27-year-old student from Telangana, Praveen Gampa, was found dead with bullet wounds in the United States, his family reported on March 5.

Gwen Mills, International President of UNITE HERE, expressed frustration in a statement: “The hotel industry is making record profits, but workers and guests are left behind. Hotels haven’t restored the services guests deserve, and workers aren’t earning enough to support their families.”

Unidentified attackers allegedly opened fire near Gampa's residence. His father, Raghavulu, shared that he had received a WhatsApp call from his son on Wednesday morning but missed it. When he called back,fef777 a stranger answered, claiming to have found his son’s phone.

The family immediately suspected something was wrong, and their worst fears were soon confirmed. According to Gampa's cousin Arun, some friends reported that his body was discovered with bullet wounds, and some mentioned he was shot at a store. The family is still unclear about the exact circumstances.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed condolences over Gampa’s death, stating, "We are saddened by the untimely death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a postgraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Consulate is in contact with Praveen's family and the University, providing them with all possible support. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his family and friends of the departed," they posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Gampa had moved to the U.S. in 2023 to pursue a Master’s degree in data science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and was working part-time at a local store when the incident occurred.baixopg
